Grinnell survived a late rally and held on to win for the first time in nearly three years, while UW-Platteville picked up its first win of the season and RPI won a rivalry game in Saturday's early Division III football action.
Daniel Carter ran for two touchdowns in regulation and Grinnell scored on the first play in overtime and made it stand up as the Pioneers won for the first time since November 2018, defeating Lawrence 35-28. The Vikings had scored three consecutive touchdowns in the fourth quarter, the last with 43 seconds left to play, to tie the game at 28-28 but Grinnell's Dustin Saia found Grayson Woodhouse for a 25-yard touchdown on the first play of overtime and Adam Khater broke up third-down and fourth-down passes in the end zone to preserve the win and set off the celebration.
Grinnell played just three games in 2019 before shutting its season down because of how small its roster had become. The Pioneers did not field a team in 2020-21.

The Pioneers raced onto Rosenbloom Field after stopping Lawrence's final offensive play and joining their fans in celebration in the south end zone as they halted a 26-game losing streak in Midwest Conference play dating to Oct. 25, 2014.
UW-Platteville scored 28 of the final 31 points of the game and picked up its first win of the season, defeating Franklin 44-19. It was the first win of the season for Platteville, which lost its first two games to East Texas Baptist and Bethel. Franklin (2-1) tied the game on a defensive extra point return midway through the third quarter before the Pioneers pulled away. Colin Schuetz completed 26 of 43 passes for 332 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
George Marinopoulos threw for 262 yards and three touchdowns on 21-of-28 passing to power RPI over WPI, 24-10, as the Engineers of Troy ruined homecoming for the Boynton Hillers and capture the Transit Trophy. RPI amassed 366 yards of offense, including 104 yards rushing, led by senior Dylan Burnett running for 79 yards on 21 carries.
Brice Butler returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown and Frank Antuono ran for a pair of touchdowns as Westminster (Pa.) won going away, defeating Case Western Reserve 34-12. The game was a battle of two Presidents' Athletic Conference teams receiving votes in the D3football.com Top 25. Butler's pick was one of his three on the day, and five interceptions for the Titans against Drew Saxton. Brayden Thimons added four tackles for loss, two and a half sacks and three quarterback hurries.
Cortland raced out to a 44-point halftime lead, including both defensive and special teams touchdowns, and the Red Dragons defeated visiting Buffalo State, 58-9. Brees Segala completed 15 of his 21 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns before being replaced late in the third quarter. Cortland also scored via a Stone Murray 61-yard interception return, a Joshua Cordero blocked punt that Carl Greene returned 5 yards for a score.
Dickinson scored three times off of Gettysburg turnovers and the Little Brown Bucket remained in the hands of the Red Devils after a 34-3 win. Dickinson has won the last five meetings with Gettysburg and has closed the gap in the series to 44-40-2. Diante Ball had 15 carries for 113 yards and a touchdown in the win.
Nick Petruzziello returned a fumble 50 yards for a touchdown, but that was the only offense the University of Rochester was able to muster as Brockport went on to win 16-7. The Golden Eagles (2-1) held Rochester to seven first downs and 134 yards of total offense. Jala Coad outdid that by himself for Brockport going for 214 yards and a touchdown on 35 carries.
Jared Colletti and Spencer McMillion both had long touchdown runs in the first quarter and the duo combined for 276 yards and three touchdowns leading Coast Guard to a 33-6 win over Nichols. Colletti, who scored on a 92-yard touchdown run on the Bears second play from scrimmage, carried 21 times for a career-high 141 yards and a touchdown while McMillion, who had a 71-yard touchdown run on CGA's fourth play from scrimmage, which was also his first career rush, carried 11 times for a career best 135 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win as both teams are now 2-1 on the season.
Albion got to Hanover quarterback Matthew Weimer for three interceptions and racked up eight tackles for loss as the Britons improved to 3-0 with a 24-14 win against the Panthers. Phillip Jones-Price picked up 112 yards on the ground for Albion.
Kevin Licciardi scored on a 24-yard run and a 50-yard pass less than three minutes apart and Catholic was able to hold on to hand Endicott its first loss of the season, 32-29. The Cardinals covered an onside kick but could not run out the clock, giving the Gulls the ball at their own 25. Endicott got into Catholic territory before time ran out.
Montclair State scored its first offensive touchdown of the season, and its second, and its third, but it was not enough as Salve Regina survived to win 24-21. Salve Regina extended its early lead to 17-0 on the opening possession of the second half. Joey Mauriello led all rushers with 25 carries for 100 yards and a score for the Seahawks.
Hobart running backs Rayshawn Boswell and Tim Denham Jr. each rushed for more than 100 yards, leading the Statesmen to a 42-21 win at St. John Fisher. A Rochester native, Boswell had 17 carries for 128 yards and three touchdowns while Denham added 118 yards and a TD as Hobart piled up 287 yards rushing and dominated time of possession. Boswell's first career 100-yard game included touchdowns runs of 15 yards, 1 yard and 9 yards. He finished the day with a 7.5 yards per carry average. Denham logged his second 100-yard game of the season, scoring on a 1-yard dive to open the day's scoring. He also added a special teams touchdown, returning the opening kickoff of the second half, 90 yards.
Larry Rivers had another record-breaking day for Lakeland and the Muskies were nearly unstoppable in an overpowering 56-7 win over Wisconsin Lutheran. Rivers rushed for 204 yards and set a the school single-game rushing record with six touchdowns. He also tied a nearly 53-year old Lakeland record for most points in a game set by Pat Curran, who rushed for three touchdowns and caught three touchdown passes against Northwestern (Wis.) Nov. 2, 1968 before embarking on a 10-year NFL career. Rivers's six touchdowns and 36 points also tied NACC single-game marks for rushing touchdowns, total touchdowns and points scored.
