All season long, No. 8 Wartburg has looked like a much different team than last year's national quarterfinalist that dominated the IIAC. After five narrow victories to open the season, the Knights were dealt a stunning loss by Dubuque. The Spartans dominated, winning 45-13 and holding the Knights to just 218 yards of total offense. Maurece Herrion rushed for four touchdowns to lead the Dubuque offense.
The Empire 8 continued its ascent into chaos, as Brockport State upset No. 24 Ithaca, 27-17. Brynell Midellton came up with two late interceptions to seal the win for the Golden Eagles and hand the Bombers their second conference loss of the season.
No. 12 Thomas More needed a fourth quarter rally to hold off St. Vincent on the road. Brenan Kuntz came on in relief of injured quarterback Jensen Gebhardt, but it was the Saints defense that keyed the comeback victory. Trey Wells returned an interception for a touchdown for the game's final score. The Saints picked off three passes and sacked Tyler Donahue three times.
No. 2 Linfield started slowly, leading Willamette just 7-0 at halftime. The Wildcats erupted for 28 points in the third quarter en route to the victory, which clinched a 60th consecutive winning season for Linfield. The streak has been college football's all-time record for the past 17 seasons.
No. 4 Wesley cruised past Kean, 56-14. Joe Callahan passed for his 100th career touchdown, tying Chris Warrick for the Wolverines record.
No. 5 UW-Oshkosh spent plenty of energy in last week's win over UW-Whitewater, so it was little surprise to see the Titans start slow on Saturday. They rallied from a 10-7 deficit to defeat UW-Stevens Point 21-10.
Mitch Hendricks and Nick Martin went toe-to-toe, but Sam Sura proved to be the difference as No. 9 St. John's pulled away from Gustavus Adolphus, 49-27. The Johnnies handed the Gusties their first loss of the season behind Sura's 33 carries for 201 yards and four touchdown.
Mount Union handled its first week of the 2015 season atop the polls with ease, defeating Heidelberg, 59-17. Logan Nemeth rushed for three touchdowns to up his season total to 14. Jon Isom had five sacks as No. 3 Mary Hardin-Baylor's defense continued its dominance in a 54-6 win over Louisiana College.
No. 9 St. Thomas put up 78 points, No. 23 Salisbury put up 795 yards of offense, and No. 10 Wabash, No. 13 UW-Platteville, No. 19 Concordia-Moorhead, No. 21 Albright, and No. 22 Rowan also cruised to lopsided victories.
Despite facing personnel shortages at multiple positions, Wheaton had no shortage of points, defeating Millikin 62-14. Andrew Bowers stepped in at quarterback for the injured Johnny Peltz and threw for 166 yards and three touchdowns, while Sola Olateju ran for 193 yards and three scored on just 13 carries.
On Friday night, No. 6 UW-Whitewater got back on the winning side of the box score, but might have lost leading rusher Jordan Ratliffe in the process. Jarrod Ware, then Tyler Glass replaced him as the Warhawks defeated UW-La Crosse 30-12. Glass ran 14 times for 93 yards and a touchdown, while Vince Mason had two interceptions for Whitewater.
No. 11 Johns Hopkins won on Friday night as well, cruising to a 34-7 win vs. Dickinson. The Blue Jays got all five of their touchdowns in a six-possession run from late in the first quarter until early in the third to put the game away. Hopkins is 49-1 in its last 50 regular season games.
