Redlands Football shutout at No. 23 Linfield

McMinnville, Ore. – The University of Redlands football team (0-2) lost 45-0 at No. 23 Linfield University Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs kicked off to the Wildcats to begin the game and Linfield moved it to the Bulldog 27 yard line and on a second and five Chase Hunter intercepted the pass in the endzone to get the ball to the offense for the first time.

The opening drive would lose six yards and Aidan Petruescu punted 38 yards to the Linfield 48.

Just over two minutes later the Wildcats scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown.

The rest of the first quarter saw the Bulldog offense have drives of three plays for negative two yards, nine plays for 39 yards that ended in a missed field goal, and three plays for negative seven yards.

In the second quarter they had only 36 total yards as they went into the half down 24-0.

After deferring to the second half the Bulldogs got the first crack at the ball. The possess gained only got 21 yards, all of which came on the first play when Calel Olicia-Aramboles ran for six yards and another 15 yards were tacked on for an unsportsmanlike penalty.

In the fourth quarter Redlands had their best drive as they went from their own 24 and they got it all the way to the Linfield 45 before a failed fourth down conversion.

Olicia-Aramboles had 53 yards on only 11 attempts. Cal Breen had two catches for a team-high 24 yards.

Defensively Matthew Lising had nine solo tackles. Jonathan Aguilera had two tackles and a tackle for loss, and Dominic Vargas also added a tackle for loss.

In the backfield Laurence Williams had a pick and two pass breakups. Hunter had five tackles and one interception.

The Bulldogs will return home for their first game at Ted Runner Stadium as they host Chapman University on Saturday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m. for the "Tailgate with a Cop" and "Take a kid to the game".
