Football Routs Tigers in Texas

MARSHALL, Texas- The UW-Oshkosh football team got back in the win column on Saturday (Sept. 16) with a 60-7 rout of East Texas Baptist.

The Titans accumulated 476 yards on offense with 26 first downs and 10-of-17 successful third down conversions. Two Titans scored their first career touchdown in the contest.

UWO held the Tigers to 135 offensive yards, the fewest allowed since allowing 112 to UW-Eau Claire in a 31-3 win on Oct. 10, 2019.

Kobe Berghammer finished the day with 216 passing yards and five touchdowns, adding 40 yards on the ground.

Jon Mathieu led receivers with 72 yards and a touchdown. Four more Titans caught a touchdown.

Kaio Harn paced Titan rushers, scoring once with 70 yards. Tony Steger and Quentin Keene both scored on the ground as well.

Tijs Santiago intercepted the third pass of the game, giving the ball to the Titans at the ETBU 12-yard line. Down to the 9-yard line, Berghammer scrambled for a while before finding Kaio Harn wide open in the end zone for the easy touchdown. Clayton Schwalbe took the direct snap on the point-after play and rushed to make the score 8-0 early.

Jon Mathieu caught his first career touchdown on a 55-yard play to extend the UWO lead to 15-0 after Mobley made the extra point attempt.

The Tigers scored on a 34-yard play for their only score of the game with 4:10 remaining in the first quarter.

After five drives ended scoreless to start the second quarter, Schwalbe scored with 1:42 left in the half on a 2-yard pass from Berghammer.

After a Berghammer to Tetzlaff pass was ruled out of bounds in the end zone, Mobley converted a 30-yard kick to make the score 25-7 headed into halftime.

Opening the second half with the ball, UWO wasted no time and scored on a 20-yard rush from Kaio Harn with 12:46 left in the third quarter.

Each of the next three Oshkosh drives ended with touchdowns as well. Berghammer threw a 6-yard pass to Tony Steger, Avery Kurth scored his first career touchdown on a 7-yard reception and Steger scored again on a 1-yard rush.

The Titans opened the fourth quarter with the ball, marching down the field in 16 plays and scored their final points on a 30-yard rush by Quentin Keene.

The Tigers' final drive of the game stalled out for a punt after an incompletion and an Ean Wilson sack. Now in at quarterback, Will Brust helped UWO to the 50-yard line before kneeling twice to run out the clock.

The Titans will return on Sept. 30, facing UW-Whitewater at home in a 1 p.m. matchup at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
