Josephson Named Offensive Coordinator at Johns Hopkins

More news about: Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, MD – David Josephson, a 2015 Johns Hopkins graduate and most recently a member of the football coaching staff at Stanford, has been named the offensive coordinator of the Blue Jay football team it was announced today by Greg Chimera, the James F. Margraff head coach of football.  Josephson replaces Chimera as the team's offensive coordinator; Chimera was named the head coach at Johns Hopkins on February 22.

"David is the ideal person to lead our offense and build on the success that unit has enjoyed in recent years," Chimera noted.  "He has a thorough understanding our of culture and what we do schematically and was actively involved in the recruiting of every returning player we will have in 2019.  I am excited to see David's unique ability to teach the game blend with the experienced and explosive talent we have on our roster."

Josephson previously served as an assistant coach at Johns Hopkins from 2015-17 and heled guide the Blue Jays to a three-year record of 31-4, including a 29-1 mark in the regular season. The Blue Jays won the outright Centennial Conference title in 2015 and 2016 and shared the title in 2017.  Johns Hopkins advanced to the NCAA Playoffs in each of those three seasons with appearances in the second round in 2015 and 2016.

Josephson, who began his coaching career as a student assistant during his undergraduate days at Johns Hopkins after his playing career was cut short by an injury, served in a variety of roles during his previous three-year tenure.  He worked as the Special Teams Coordinator during the 2017 season after assisting with special teams in 2015 and 2016.  He also coached the Blue Jay wide receivers (2016) and defensive backs (2015, 2017) and oversaw the team's recruiting efforts during his final year.

Under the direction of head coach David Shaw at Stanford during the 2018 season, Josephson served as a graduate assistant and worked with the Cardinal secondary.  He assisted in all facets of game-planning, film breakdown and data analysis and worked closely First Team All-Pac-12 defensive back Paulson Adebo, who led the nation with 24 pass breakups in 2018.  Stanford posted a 9-4 record, including a 6-3 mark in the Pac-12, and defeated Pitt in the Sun Bowl.

Josephson helped guide a record-breaking Blue Jay offense in 2016 as Johns Hopkins averaged 41.4 points and 510.1 yards per game.  Johns Hopkins set then school records for total offense, passing yards per game (342.2) and touchdown passes (37).  The Blue Jays' 41.4 points, 65 overall touchdowns and 6.51 yards per play in 2016 all ranked second best in school history at the time.  Three of Josephson's players earned All-Centennial Conference honors in 2016, five different receivers had 29 or more receptions and five players had at least six touchdown receptions on the year.

Josephson originally joined the Blue Jay coaching staff in 2013 after his playing career was cut short by an injury. Undaunted, he continued his contribution to the program by quickly becoming a valuable student assistant - immersing himself in all aspects of the coaching staff. He also spent the spring of 2017 as an offensive assistant at Yale.

A native of Old Greenwich, Connecticut, Josephson graduated from Johns Hopkins with honors and a degree in economics and a minor in entrepreneurship and management.
